Thank you everyone who contributed to making the Sheffield vegan food fayre such a huge success!!
We had hundreds of people through the door, and even though we had more food than last time, it ran out just before the end! We showed the Farm Animal Sanctuary DVD throughout, had information stalls with things to purchase (on a suggested donation basis), petitions and information on different animals rights and vegan issues. There were raffles too, which were generously contributed to. We also made enough money to cover the entire cost of the fayre. The fantastic food included pizzas, salads, cakes, biscuits, curries, soups, flans, sosage rolls, burgers...and tea, coffee, juice and milkshake too! Pictures will follow soon.
Best of all we had some great feedback from non-vegans - the questionnaires showed a number of people decided to go veggie/vegan or to eat more veggie/vegan food. A girl of about seven years old came with her mum - she had told her mum she wanted to be a vegetarian. Her mum said "we'll go to this fayre, if you like the food then we'll think about it". Both of them loved the food, and the girl particularly liked the homemade falafel, and took lots of recipes. Her mum told her she was happy for her to become a vegetarian now.
Also a heads-up about International Animal Rights Day this Thursday, Uncaged will be holding a vigil and film showing outside the town hall, come along to help set up from 3pm. The event lasts from 3.30pm - 6pm, and will be a great opportunity to leaflet and raise awareness. At 7.30pm that evening there will be another chance to see the ground breaking documentary, 'Earthlings'. At Sheff Uni, lecture theatre 2 in the Arts Tower, non students are welcome to attend admission is £1 (or 50p for Doc Soc members).
Don't forget, this month's SAF meeting is at the Blue Moon Cafe at 6:30-8:00pm. The meetings are usually at the Fat Cat pub, but it's booked up this month. Please come down and help plan upcoming actions - there will be a particular focus on fur and foie gras campaigns.
Strength in numbers,
SAF
